Department Functions

  • Administers a fair and unbiased enforcement program to correct violations of property conditions and land-use requirements.
  • Provides a uniform, consistent procedure to ensure that all citizens are equally represented.
  • Minimizes the necessity for legal action by allowing ample opportunity for voluntary compliance and correction.
  • Promptly responds to complaints regarding structures and/or conditions that present a health or safety hazard to the public.

Codes Enforced

The Code Enforcement Officers enforce regulations relating to the following:
  • Condition of existing structures that constitute a clear and present danger to the public
  • Building code violations including construction or change or occupancy without permits
  • California State housing law (minimum standards for safe and sanitary housing)
  • Illegal dumping
  • Liquid waste disposal
  • Zoning requirements for structures such as use, location, configuration, size, and land-use requirements
  • Abandoned vehicles
  • Occupied recreational vehicles
  • Delano municipal and zoning ordinance
