Fair Housing
The purpose of the Fair Housing Arts Contest is to raise youth awareness of the Fair Housing Act and commemorate the National Fair Housing Month of April. The City of Delano invites students in grades K-12 to participate in our annual Fair Housing Arts Contest with this years theme, Fair Housing: Won't you be my neighbor?

Each April the United States Housing and Urban Development (HUD) honors the Fair Housing Act being made into law. This law with regards to housing was voted by Congress and signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson on April 11, 1968, over 40 years ago, just 4 days after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Participants are encouraged to submit an arts submission that relates to fair housing and grades 6-12 also have the option of submitting an essay. Prize-winning entries are selected on their originality, content and the incorporation of the fair housing theme. All participants receive a certificate of participation and each winner is presented with a trophy and a cash prize. First place winners are awarded $75, second place winners $50,third place winners $25 and some categories acknowledge honorable mentions.

The contest runs from April 1st-April 29th with all submissions due at 5 p.m. on April 29th.

This years contest was sponsored by Oasis Real Estate, New Homes America, Liberty One Real Estate and Majestic Palms Realty.

Special thanks to our many volunteer judges.
