Crimes Against Persons

Another unit of the Criminal Investigations Division is the Crimes Against Persons Unit. The investigators of this unit are responsible for investigating crimes which include:
  • Domestic violence and family assaults
  • Elder Abuse
  • Felonious assaults
  • Homicides
  • Kidnapping and abductions
  • Missing persons
  • Registration and monitoring of sex offenders
  • Sexual assaults
  • Weapons violations
The Crimes Against Persons investigators rely heavily on the information provided to uniformed patrol officers when the initial crime report is taken, and it is important that each victim provide as much accurate information about their crime as possible.

Each case is assigned at least one investigator, and many times, more than on investigator to provide each victim with the best quality investigative service as possible.

Are You the Victim of a Violent Crime?

If you have sustained physical injury as a direct result of a crime of violence, or are legally dependent upon support of a person who has sustained physical injury or death as a direct result of a crime of violence, you have legally assumed or voluntarily paid the medical or burial expenses incurred as a direct result thereof, you may qualify for indemnification by the State of California for the out-of-pocket wages and medical or burial expenses which you have incurred as a result of the crime.

Section 13959 et. Seq. of the Government Code has established a program to indemnify and assist in the rehabilitation of residents of California who have, as a direct result of a crime, suffered a pecuniary loss which they are unable to recoup without suffering serious financial hardship. Claims must be filed with the State Board of Control for the State of California. For further information regarding this program please contact:
